About Canine Collab

Hello!

My name is Nadia and I am the director and head trainer for The Canine Collab. Dogs have always been a part of my life and an important one. My family dogs were Labradors and I can’t imagine growing up without them.

I have always had a passion for animals and an interest for training sparked in me at an early age. I fondly remember teaching my dog, Sasha to do tricks at home. This passion grew throughout my schooling and lead me to study a Bachelors Degree in Animal Management and Welfare at Unitec.

While studying, I started working at BLVNZ Guide Dogs in the kennels. From there, I was hooked on the training bug. I saw these dogs progress from puppies to incredible guides for blind and low vision people. After graduating from Unitec, I was striving to get a cadetship as a Guide Dog Trainer. In 2018, I was successful in my endeavor. I qualified with a diploma in Guide Dog Training in 2021, under International Guide Dog Federation standards (meaning I can train guide dogs globally). After almost 7 years at Guide Dogs, I decided to pursue private dog training and The Canine Collab was created.

My passion for teaching people (as well as dogs) was one of the driving factors to switching to private dog training. Throughout my journey to becoming a dog trainer, I have learnt from many incredible people in the animal industry. I volunteered at Riding for The Disabled and the SPCA, which taught me valuable skills. I am currently dipping my toe into the world of animal rescue, which is an exciting new challenge.

I am a keen horse rider and try to get out riding a few times a year. I have had rabbits for many years and always have a dog in the house…even if they aren’t always mine.
